Twilight Imperium 3rd Ed. Sunday 23rd October

So it's been a while but now is the time to head back to Metacol. 8 player game with both expansions. Game is kindly hosted by PaulyG again up in Greenhill. 10am start - usually finish around 8pm for Pizza. Bring some lunchables to add to the ongoing food table. I will sort out race choices and seating position nearer the time. Just express your interest here. Some of the seats are on first reserve (name) for previous players... But there are likely to be spare spots (only 2 of us confirmed so far) so shout up and make that reserve list.

Hi guys there was some talk last time of recording the game as part of the club and I wondered if you would be OK with this. It would be cool I think to put together some kind of video, the plan would be to record the whole thing but edit it down to a short programme with interviews and maybe a short game review and thoughts at the end.

I just want to make sure everyone is comfortable with this, if you are not then please let me know. If you have any reservations about appearing then I would totally understand, of course you can preview the finished result and veto anything you are not happy with.

As we've got some new players (and the rest of us haven't played for ages anyway), Sam thought it would be a good idea for me to re-post the details of the rules & expansions that we use. This is what you need to read in advance...

Base game rules
Read all the way to p31 for core rules. Optional rules we use are:
- Distant Suns (p33)
- Leaders (p34)
Don't worry too much about the strategy cards (pp36-38) as we use ones from the expansions

Shattered Empire Expansion
Read all the way to p8. Additional optional rules we use are:
- Variant Strategy Cards (p9)
- Variant Objectives (I think) (p9)
- Race-Specific Technologies (p9)
- Artifacts (p9)
- Shock Troops (p10)
- Space Mines (p10)
- The Wormhole Nexus (p10)
- Facilities (p11)

No worries. Please don't be daunted by the amount of material! The mechanics are fairly simple, there are just a lot of things that you can do at any given time. I like to think that we are fairly kind to new players, and we'll give you some basic strategy pointers (e.g. which strategy cards you want to grab in the early game) on the day and make sure you don't do anything too disastrous in your initial setup. First game is definitely a learning experience, but hopefully fun.

Brilliant!, looking forward to the seeing whats next... surely whilst borrowing elements from said "Mystery" franchise, you should've started with episode 4... the mention of previous wars ( also shared with mystery franchise ) is bound to happen, and allow room for a prequel trilogy

This is great! Getting me in the mood for some *ahem* peaceful negotiation and galactic prosperity.

I'm really looking forward to Monday when we can finally do the random race allocations on film! Can't decide who I wish I'll end up with... Do I want a super aggressive game... hrm...

The race draw was made last night (on video, no less) and I got to look behind the curtain at the complex randomisation machinery that Aneurin has built to achieve this important task. It's very much like the lottery draw, and everyone involved had to wear white gloves.

Oooh and if Meurig takes the Virus then the Embers would become a risky choice...
