Re: Easy 8 player games
There are lots of hidden role games! Spyfall would be good with 8 players, as would either The Resistance or Avalon (if they're not too complex) and Saboteur.
I enjoy Ca$h n Guns, though it's a bigger box, and that goes to 8. Citadels and Mascarade are perhaps towards the more complex end of family friendly but are both very small boxes and not *that* complicated.
For super simple stuff, perhaps Dobble or Pairs

Depending on how soon you're going... I've got all the games I suggested (except Spyfall, though there's actually a free website where you can play that via smartphones) and happy to lend you any of them if you're down next Tues...Ianm wrote:paulyg wrote:There are lots of hidden role games! You can reduce the box size for cash N guns significantly by removing the foam guns and using "finger pistols".

It's pretty awesome...
We often play it later on on a Tuesday evening; I must have played easily 200+ games of it; and I'm always gagging for more!
Re: Easy 8 player games
That said, it's not everyone's cup of tea, people either love it or hate it. Be interested to hear how you get on with it. Other games mentioned, like Codenames are relatively inexpensive, easy to play, and loads of re-play value.

Camel Up is an easy game that can play up to 8.

Re: Easy 8 player games
Handily, someone's just posted a geeklist on Boardgame Geek for just this sort of question. It summarises games that users have said are best/recommended for x number of players.

I've tried a few of the games listed for 8 players with friends and family. Codenames has always gone down well and Resistance, Saboteur and Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space have generally worked well too. I've had some good times with Mascarade but some people (generally gamers) haven't liked the chaos of it.
Telestrations and Monikers are both like old-style parlour games, so they're unlikely to open up the wonderful world of modern boardgaming to people but everyone should be familiar with the idea (for better or worse). Also, for both of these, you could just play your own version with a bit of organisation, some pens and paper, and some goodwill from your players, so you don't have to go out and buy them if you don't want. My family have been playing Monikers like that for several generations, although we just called it hybrid charades.

Re: Easy 8 player games
Cheers guys. Really helpful
Family holiday is all adults but completely non gamers. And I am aiming to bring variety to what I imagine will be cards or dominoes on the evenings!
Camel up I played the other day and thought was great fun. Maybe a bit big for the case.
Never heard of telestrations or monikers but that will be my research this evening.

Re: Easy 8 player games
Also, given the choice between 'The Resistance' and 'The Resistance: Avalon', get the later. The Resistance, 2nd edition, used to include 'The Plot Thickens' expansion (which I think is great), but it's not in the 3rd edition, instead they include a themed version of Lady of the Lake. So all in all, it's a sub-set of Avalon, and Avalon has a nicer (though it's all subjective) theme.

That will stop the in-laws inviting me on future family holidays so could have some legs!Aneurin wrote:Twilight Imperium 3rd edition with all ecpansions
