What should our web address be: www.xxxxxxxxxxxx.yyy (2 choices)
Web address
Ok any suggestions for web-address for this forum?
Unfortunately "SheffieldBoardGamesClub" is too long by 1 character...
Hence the "Sheffieldboardgamers"
We can take .com/.net
What do people think? Stick to
Sheffieldboardgamers.com
or
SBGC.com
or
.....
something cool and original?

Re: Web address
Any particular reason for . com not .co.uk or even .org.uk as we are not for profit?
Minor point but if you want to be found in searches more then sheffieldboardgames would be better than sheffieldboardgamers?
All the best

Re: Web address
Sadblokesclub.geek would be factually innacurate. By my count we had three females in the room last night.
When i was looking for a club in sheffield i literally googled 'board gamers in sheffield' so i reckon 'sheffieldboardgamers.whatever' would be good.

I'm guessing "forumotion" who host this forum and would sort out the gubbins of it all is actually a state-side company... they only offer .com/.net/.org/.biz
I just thought .com/.net are easier to remember... happy to go for .org
I'm really surprised there isn't a .ge.ek yet...

Can't vote on my phone but Sheffieldboardgamers.com would do the trick, in my opinion.

Re: Web address
Sorting this out this weekend so a small bump to get it back at the top of the page...
Re: Web address
I wonder if this is true for others as it is for me: I tend to have more faith in a site when I see it is a .co.uk, and will even take a second glance at the url to check in some cases, I suppose because I trust the content will be more relevant to me. A minor point, because what does that matter to a geographically specific group such as this one. I guess I do just prefer the look of it, perhaps out of some semi-conscious, irrational patriotism.
For what is available, I can't think of a more appropraite solution than sheffieldboardgamers.com. Thoughts in unnecessary detail:
I don't like the initials. They don't mean anything to read, they sound corporate and impersonal, and you don't remember them unless you already know the full name. PS: sbgc.com seems to be held by "Specher Berrier Group of Companies".
A straightforward name is more effective than something creative but indirect like "SteelCityBoarders", though if we were to go that route "boarders" makes me think "lodger" (Sheffield Housing Association?), and the title almost sounds like a sports team. Maybe when we are playing professional Bang!. Plus, it's not like we have to distinguish ourself from other Sheffield board game clubs, and we might as well stake our claim as THE Sheffield board game club.
SheffieldBoardGamesClub, if it were available, is anyway one word and several characters too long. The abbreviation "Shef" sounds horrible, and as a minor point for those few times someone wants to type in the URL there is the confusion between Shef, Sheff, Sheffield ect. Between BoardGames and BoardGamers, Gamers just sounds a tad more appropriate. We are a club, where the people and the community are the key, as opposed to a shop or publisher for whom BoardGames might be better.
sheffieldboardgamers.com QED

Still haven't played Agricola of any kind. I've played a fair bit of Ascension online on the iPad today, though. It's freaking addictive and a great boredom killer.

Re: Web address
Ascension on the iPad is great fun, but too easy to beat. The expansions are pretty good, but I really need to buy the actual game.
