Thoughts? It's reading about Android: Netrunner that has got me interested

I'm quite interested in seeing how Netrunner plays too. But I also know that I tend to be a bit obsessive and would end up buying all the monthly packs for lots of money and not playing enough to justify it...

Netrunner is a great 2 player game. You don't *need* to buy the monthly packs unless you are going to play tournaments or are as obsessive as PaulyG Smile

I've also heard good things about the Star Wars LCG, but have never played it myself.

I've got a bunch of the LotR lcg. It's really good but it's pretty complex and cooperative. You definitely need another person willing to put the same time in.
I've basically traded it for xwing now

I've played Netrunner a few times and really rate it. The whole Hacker v Big Business theme is really easy to get pulled into.

I agree with Paul you don't need to buy the extensions- there's plenty of replay value just with the base set.

I have both the Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings LCGs (base sets and a few expansions). LotR is a co-op and Star wars pits the 2 players off against each other. I think I actually prefer the latter as a 2 player game... reminds me of the Game of Thrones LCG.

But my experience with both of these games is you defiantly need someone who is willing enough to give plenty of time and effort to playing multiple times with you. To some extent the games are all about deck building and that alone can take some time (and money as you often need 2 base sets and the expansions) to create an 'optimised' deck. And I guess that's what ultimately puts me off these games... I don't have the time to invest in working out which cards work well together...

yes you can play with just the base sets but you often feel that the base cards lack some synergy and hence you 'want/'need' expansions - I guess that's the business model though. Suck you in - take your money and run... like Kes - I got into X-wing, then Dice Masters and now I've stopped both as I want to concentrate on Imperial Assault.

To sum up I guess my opinion is - if you really want to get into it and buy lots of the expansions - spend time reading the cards - deck building - and you don't want involvement in other game systems that require multiple purchases then go for it - they are good games but feel like a lot of work to me.

I'm also interested in trying Netrunner. I was tricked into reading the rules once, but never actually played it.

It's true though that you need someone else willing to put the time in to really make it work and I am far too heavily invested in x-wing to have time for anything else.

Until I get bored of x-wing that is.

card - Living Card Games Empty Netrunner and Star Wars LCGs

Post  Bobster Tue 04 Nov 2014, 11:32

Hello all. I have Netrunner and Star Wars. Love the concepts and artwork. Unfortunately I know no one who is into gaming like us so I tried going to a game club in Manchester to play with guys there but they were SO into the game and knew every card inside out and which cards went with which that I as a novice not only had no chance but felt like I was an inconvenience to their environment. Not welcome at all. I'd really like to start from scratch with anyone who wants to do the same. Anyone interested let me know.

Am I right in thinking you can play a game between two players with one core set? Bob, if you want to bring it one week I'll definitely play a game or two to find out if it's something I'd like to get into.

Yes they are playable right out of the box... and are fun to play - but I'm with Bob it can get very serious. I'd be happy to fly play casual sometime...

Since I got the base set of Netrunner off DaveB a few weeks ago I've had a few games with my girlfriend. We have only played with the most basic hacker deck and corp deck so far and haven't even tried the others in the base set yet, but we did find it to be a good game once we'd got the hang of things. I doubt I'll be getting far enough into it to start buying extra cards, though.

Okay, this sounds cool:

A Game of Thrones: The Card Game Second Edition

They are starting again with the Game of Thrones LCG. A message from one of the designers:

An Open Letter from Nate French to the A Game of Thrones Community

Loads of interesting info in there I wasn't aware of eg. GoT LCG is twelve years old, started as a CCG and that game had a non-random core set released that turned it into the first LCG.

Seriously considering getting in on this from the start. Release is next year.

I played the stand alone card game thing they released recently and that was fun - pretty much the star wars LCG again...

How long have I been saying we need to play this with Jack!

Presumably it's gonna be hard to sell now if they're ditching it for a new edition.

I think I've got it figured, though you should watch the video tutorial at least:

Video Tutorial

Core Set Rules

The manual explains the rules assuming you have four players. I guess that's what is was designed for. Who else is interested? Lizzy? Jack? I'm happy to play two player first to get the hang of it. Probably better than trying to struggle through the rules with four people first time. Get in contact if you're free one evening and want to give it a shot.
