Now that I've won there will be no future games.Aneurin wrote:So when can we play again PaulyG?
... Just kidding
Sticking with a quarterly pattern I guess we're looking at October (near my birthday!). How about the 17th, 18th, 24th or 25th?
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
The perfect time to lose your crown... I hope I'm sat next to you!
Sunday 18th would be best for me as the weekend after is the start half term so likely to be away.

I will say yes, though I may have to pull out if I get moaned at.
Put DaveB down, I've told him he should play.

Evening all,
I have had a quick read up on the game and sounds fun, if there is a space going and you don't mind a noob/scrub like me joining I would love to come. Quick learner, I promise! Also, a Dune reprint? What's not to love?!

Looks like I can finally pop my cherry on this monster

I think I'll pass this time thanks.
I enjoyed it, but it's a bit of a behemoth, and I wasn't so sure about all the non-combat malarky!

Snayff - You are more than welcome to join us. Yourself and DaveB would be the newbies - everyone else has played at least 3 times with Steve and myself raking up 70+ plays.
Anyway - its actually 'Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition' not 'Rex' (which is the Dune remake!). They are set in the same universe its just a 4X type civilisation game. Takes around 10-12 hours normally. We play in Greenhill... start early and finish for Pizza... normally we club together get 6 giant pizzas to share - costs around £6 each...
If you are still game good... if not shout back.
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
Oh dear, I spent an hour reading the rules on Rex! Well, if I ever play that at least I have an idea now. And a 4x boardgame? Sounds ace. Definitely in, and for the pizzas! 10-12 hour stretch is all good; I won't be abandoning part way (depending on how quickly I get wiped of course!)
Is Greenhill down by Abbeydale road area? And October 15th is a long old time away, do you often have to book that far in advance?

As it happens, I'd quite like to play Rex some time so hopefully that work won't go to waste! Not sure who at the club has a copy of it, though.Snayff wrote:Oh dear, I spent an hour reading the rules on Rex! Well, if I ever play that at least I have an idea now. And a 4x boardgame? My place is 'between Woodseats and Totley' so yeah, pretty much where you're thinking.
And booking this far in advance is very unusual! We just do it for this game because it's such a commitment (Steve, for example, comes all the way from down south and Tom W will be in Manchester by October).
Look forward to playing with you!
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
It must be good if people are traveling all that way for it. I am sure I'll catch you all before then.
Edit:
Oh, also, in looking around I found a breakdown of the rules, a dummies guide if you will. Might be useful for DaveB, and anyone else looking for a refresher.

I found this series of YouTube videos, to be a very clear and concise over-view of the game: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL31B6F4B63F5E406A

I'm already far to excited about the game... I've run the program to randomise races... as per usual - 2 to choose from... pick one (I'll highlight it here)... The order here is also the player order...
TomW: Yssaril Tribes or Arborec
PaulC: Barony of Letnev or Shardak-Norr
Steve: Xxcha Kingdom or Naalu Collective
DaveB: Ghosts of Creuss or Mentak Coalition
TomC: Clan of Saar or Winnu
PaulG: Emirates of Hacan or Yin Brotherhood
Aneurin: Embers of Muaat or Federation of Sol
Snayff: Nekro Virus or L1Z1X Mindnet

What program did you run to randomize races? And I will read up on the difference (though sounds like zerg / borg respectively) but do you have any advice?

Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
Just a Matlab script I wrote...
The Virus basically never need to take Technology (they steal it as they attack people) or assembly (they cannot vote and really don't need the speaker token to secure technology) so you get your pick of strategy cards... which can be great... they are a very war like race... but quite hard to play as they are never 'better' than anyone in a tech heavy game. But they are a fun race to play... putting pressure on everyone to get tech...
The Lizix are a good - they start with loads of tech and have cheap powerful dreadnaughts. No real disadvantage...

Ah, ok, thank you. I asked because I am interested in code so always sniff around to see what is going around.

The Virus don't learn, can't vote and constantly steal? Sounds like a cautionary tale in the making, let's have that one!
