Thanks DaveB...PaulG wrote:Ooh, and I haven't picked by faction yet. I'll go with the Emirates please (I hear they have a good airline).
I see Paul is going for 2 wins in a row... the galaxy must prevent this...

Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
I could play this, or if the space is gone I'll be a reserve
I've never played before but I'm a quick study and youtube is my friend. If you'd rather play with seasoned players let me know though, I understand about playing epic games with newbies being an issue sometimes

Hey John - some of the guys have played before but there are two complete newbies on the roster already (Myself and Kat) so I wouldn't worry about that
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
John - a guy called Simon beat you to it I'm afraid. I can put you on the reserves list? PM me your number.
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
We've been trying to play this roughly quarterly, so if you're interested then you can definitely have a spot in the next game if you don't make it via the reserves list this time...JohnH wrote:I could play this, or if the space is gone I'll be a reserve

Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
There's always Eclipse John.
I think we should introduce a house rule though; once you enter in to a full alliance, you can't leave. It's a terrible thing, breaking an alliance; makes you feel all guilty and dastardly...

This isn't the Eclipse thread... get out!
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
This is interesting. I've only played on the iPad (and not for a while) but I thought there was a game rule that penalised you for breaking an alliance (you lose a VP or somesuch). Or am I imagining it?Jamie wrote:There's always Eclipse John.

From my experience of playing hundreds of games of Risk at school, we didn't need to house rule around alliances and treaties because breaking them would have repercussions in future games amongst the same people. I suppose it's a bit different if you're not always playing with the same people and/or playing quite such a volume of games.

Admittedly I'm a little biased as I have a strong dislike of houserules in games in general, but it seems to me that houseruling something like that really isn't necessary - if a player reveals themselves to be an breaker of oaths and alliances surely no other bugger will deal with them for the rest of the game, quite apart from any historical mistrust as a rule...
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
Ask Tom C if he will form an alliance with me on Sunday... then you will see the true cost of back stabbing...
Watch his face as you say 'Shall we renegotiate the terms of our alliance?' and plant a war sun in his home system... its a picture...

Yes, I've made alliances with Aneurin in the last two games. And, yes, both times have ended with me being nefariously betrayed. Maybe the next time we have an alliance he'll be honourable and everything will be fine.

Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
I like alliances being able to be broken (for a cost), it adds an extra level of intrigue (and stress) to the game (talking about Eclipse here, as I haven't played TI3, but from Aneurin's comments I'm assuming alliances are able to be made and broken in this game also). If you don't want to feel guilty about backstabbing me, I mean "your ally", and winning on a tie breaker then don't betray the next person (if anyone ever trusts you again)
I would definitely like to play TI3 sometime

Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
There are no official alliances in TI3... it works purely on word as you cannot afford resources to fight multiple empires. You generally try and forge a friendship with one of your neighbours while attacking another or trying to meet victory conditions; trading one hex space for another which might benefit you more. Its interesting when you get objectives where you have to destroy enemy vessels, you get, if you put 2 ships there, I'll give you X later in the game... if you let me pass through this hex I'll give you this... of course non of this is set in stone and that's where the back stabbing and mistrust really delivers in this game. There are no safety nets... So pretty much like real life I expect.

You'll have first refusal for the next TI3 game that we set up :-) There's certainly a lot of negotiation and politics...JohnH wrote:I like alliances being able to be broken (for a cost), it adds an extra level of intrigue (and stress) to the game (talking about Eclipse here, as I haven't played TI3, but from Aneurin's comments I'm assuming alliances are able to be made and broken in this game also). Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
I suppose the closest thing to an 'alliance rule' is the auto breaking of trade agreements if you attack your trading partner. This can act at least as a partial deterrent...Aneurin wrote:There are no official alliances in TI3... it works purely on word as you cannot afford resources to fight multiple empires. Maybe for you trading cats... think I'll stick to landing my troops on everyone of your planets whatever the cost ... prepare for the age of men!

Well, if you don't want to take advantage of a juicy 3 TA...Aneurin wrote:PaulG wrote:

Having no idea what the hell any of you are talking about I'm merely getting nervous
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
Oh, I'll translate for you: Aneurin is going to beat the crap out of my poor, defenceless, peaceful traders. ;-)DaveB wrote:Having no idea what the hell any of you are talking about I'm merely getting nervous

I'm glad we understand each other... you were given the game last time... not going to happen again... unless you make it worth my while... of course
Re: TI3 - 18th October 2015
Hrm... so I'm sat next to the virus am I... great! Lets hope TomW invests in Science and attracts their attention.
TomW: Yssaril Tribes or Arborec
Kat: Barony of Letnev or Shardak-Norr
Steve: Xxcha Kingdom or Naalu Collective
DaveB: Ghosts of Creuss or Mentak Coalition
TomC: Clan of Saar or Winnu
PaulG: Emirates of Hacan or Yin Brotherhood
Aneurin: Embers of Muaat or Federation of Sol
Simon: Nekro Virus or L1Z1X Mindnet
Bar the Nekro this game has the potential to be a very politically driven game... not many war type races at all... Winnu should dominate the technology phase...
