Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
Ho Ho Ho... its time to get organised for the man in the red suit again.
Each year we have a Christmas party for the club. We need to pick a date for this year.
The party usually involves food and of course games - we use a good remainder of the club kitty to get some prizes to dish out on the day. Its a family/spouse friendly event - in the past we have played Pitchcar but perhaps this year we need something new? Discuss below. We probably have enough in the kitty for multiple competitions.
The University Arms (our current venue) have a Christmas food menu so this year we will be eating there (rather than bringing our own food). I have spoken to Ashley and we can have either a full sit down meal or a buffet. I'm sending out the feelers to get ideas on numbers and opinions for the event.
SIT DOWN
Three Course Meal - £17.95 per head
Two Course Meal - £14.95 per head
Starters...
Spicy parsnip soup served with a bread roll (v)
Goats cheese & balsamic onion chutney tartlet (v)
Smoked salmon, rocket, cucumber & capers salad served with brown bread and butter
Selection of bread and dipping oils (v)
Mains...
Roast turkey breast with all the trimmings
Lamb rump on a bed of pearl barley root vegetable risotto
Roast vegetable & mozzarella wellington in tomato sauce (v)
Puds...
Christmas pudding served with brandy cream
Homemade apple & sultana crumble served with custard
Black forest trifle
Cheese board - Selection of 3 cheese’s, grapes, crackers and butter
BUFFET
£7.25 per head
Selection of sandwiches (turkey and stuffing, honey roasted gammon, brie and cranberry, smoked salmon and cream cheese)
Hunters pie (pork pie topped with turkey and stuffing)
Pigs in blankets
Roast potatoes
Mince pies
Roasted cherry tomato & basil quiche
So poll away... and chat below. Put a tick to any answer that applies...
Also state your intention to come below... Vote cancelling allowed.
£5 per person deposit for the meal
£50 for the group buffet

I can do any of those dates. I've voted for a sit down meal but am cool with either, just have a *slight* preference for the meal
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
Im good for all of those dates, happy with either food choice too.

Don't know about dates yet but I'd like to come along. Don't mind too much about food either but a buffet is probably less fuss and people could drop by as and when they can rather than having to get there for a set time.

Buffet as close as possible to Christmas is my preference - I agree with Ste that a buffet is easier for people to drop in and out of.
Pitchcar for the tournament, yeah?

I would like a sit down vegetarian meal as a preference - I hope that's an option!!
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
I've posted the menu details and prices above. Looks a pretty good deal... lots of V options for the meal. Not so great for the buffet. So I'm changing my mind and going meal now I think...
Specifically the Salmon, Turkey and Cheese. Yummy. Pitchcar afterwards... or between courses?

Personally I'd kick off with the soup but I approve of the rest of your choice wholeheartedly
I don't particularly object to Pitchcar but would be nice to do something a bit different since we've done that the past couple of years.. Still, plenty of time to talk that one out
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
Hoping Flick'em Up will have surfaced in the UK by Xmas...
I was torn between the soup and the salmon... I opted for the salmon based on the fact that by the time the soup has made it to the Wilson room and in front of me during a massive group booking it probably wouldn't be the warmest... and cold Parsnip does nothing for me.

How about Two Rooms and a Boom? We can have special roles...
As for dates, can't do the 1st. Buffet vets my vote, but will go for meal of that's the co census.

Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
All dates currently good for me! I don't mind too much whether it's a buffet or sit-down meal. Meal feels like a bit more of a proper celebration, but I suppose leaves a bit less time for a tournament.
It's all good!
It's all good!
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
Hmmm - I would have preferred a buffet - (but the buffet selection for vegetarians doesn't sound very appealing) - so I guess it's a sit down for me....
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
I prefer buffet as more gaming time and the sit down meal alienates people who struggle to get there early or may find the meal a lot of money. Mainly cos more gaming time
Aneurin if the buffet wins would you be able to ask them if they can make it more suitable for veggies though please?

Not fussed on the date, would prefer the sit down meal - I have a copy of Roadzters and Bisikle (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/72800/roadzters like pitch car, but has a ball with a weight inside that allows for backspin, jumps and going round corners etc) that I'd happily bring along - very challenging and very rewarding!
I've got flick em up on my radar too, you can import it at the moment from Flick em up ludibay but it's a rather hefty £48 or so including shipping

Would slightly prefer a buffet, just for the fact I'll probably have a lot of sit down meals going on around that time with work and friends and a buffet with a lot of playtime for games would be great

Buffet with more veggie options
If we have the buffet, could we request more vegetarian options?
There will be a herd of us, surely they can add in an extra veggie option or cooked veggie dish.
Who here is a herbivore anyways?

Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
My experience of buffets has been that all the veggie stuff goes first - not leaving much for the actual vegetarians. Is there any chance the buffet could be 50% vegetarian at least?
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
Right I'm closing the poll... We are set for a Christmas Buffet on Tuesday 15th December. I asked Ash about making it more Veggie. He said that would be possible and I will sort it with him so that 50% of the food is veggie. I now need definite numbers. So please state your intention (and meat/veggie status), how many +1's you will be bringing... I will then contact you to arrange collection of the money in October.
