UK GAMES EXPO 2013
I've decided that I'm going to go to the UK GAMES EXPO 2013. It's Friday 24th - Sunday 26th May.
I'm personally thinking of going Saturday - Sunday, going down in the morning Saturday, staying at a hotel on the Saturday night, then setting off back to Sheffield at Tea time on Sunday.
I'm just wondering if anyone else from The Sheffield Boardgamers is thinking of going?... I'm planting the seed in your minds....
Just thinking about car sharing / hotel booking etc.... plus it would be nice to plan to meet up and play some games - check out new games together etc etc
Maybe people could be thinking about it - (I know It's a while away yet... but hotel booking might become difficult nearer the time...??)

In principle, yes. It avoids my wedding anniversary, so that shouldn't be a problem and I went a couple of years ago, enjoyed a lot. I'll stick on the calendar and see what the wife says. She will at least have enough notice.

I could definitely be persuaded to go. Went to The Cast Are Dice convention a few years ago and loved it. I'll try and discuss with Sarah in the next few weeks.

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2013
It's my Mom's 60th birthday on the 20th so likely I'll be down in Lichfield that weekend. A good base to hit Birmingham from for one of the days... Now just to persuade Natalie to let me out for the day...
If my Mom has her party the weekend before I could possibly do the whole weekend. I could drive... I'll keep you informed...

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2013
I've been doing a bit of research into hotel prices for the 2013 UK Games Expo... there are a few other hotels nearby, but I couldn't find any that were significantly cheaper than the Hilton Itself (If you book through the Games Expo website they've swung a deal - so it's cheaper to book a B&B room through that, than if you booked for the same day direct with the Hilton) plus the rooms are in the same building as the Expo - which is handy of course!
At the Hilton It's £60 for a single room with breakfast for 1 night, or £102 for a double with breakfast for one night (that's a double bed! - no twins available apparently)....

They've been updating their website quite a bit lately... looks like there are going to be some interesting stalls....(I'm going to have to start saving my pennies!)

The online booking system for specific events at the expo is going to be online at the end of March...

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2013
"Sunday March 24th at around 8pm" is when the online booking is going live - (according to the UKgames expo facebook page) - if anyone wants to enter any of the boardgame competitions... they've already listed some of them here:
http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?category=bor
(I'm hoping to get in on the UK Carcassonne championship myself!)... there are limited places - so I guess you have to get in quick with your bookings....
there are also card game events: http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?category=car
miniatures events: http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?category=min
and Roleplaying events: http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?category=rpg
There will be plenty of space all weekend for open gaming, and access to a Boardgames Library....

Has anyone else decided if they are definately going yet?

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2013
Evan - I was quite keen to go until I thought it clashed with another arrangement (once in a decade chance to see The Postal Service, I wasn't missing that!). However, having checked I seem to have mixed my dates up so I am free and might head down on the Saturday.
I'll have to have a look at train prices and whether I can afford it, it's the spending once there that'll be the problem!

I am going to drive down on the Saturday morning - Probably leaving Sheffield around 8am. I am aiming to get back to Sheffield about 5pm on the Sunday afternoon. Currently there is only me in the car. If anyone wants a lift there - or back - or both.... PM me.
Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2013
I'll also be going down on the Saturday but will be coming back the same day. There are a group of us going down for the Malifaux tournament.

I did manage to play some awesome games though, and come back with three new ones. How did the Carcassone championship go?

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2013
I went by myself too - had a great time though... The championship was good fun - I entered it really so that I would have some definate games lined up for the Sunday... there were 21 people in the contest... I came somewhere in the bottom 5 I think - I haven't seen the final results yet. It was a good atmosphere - Everyone was very friendly.
The best game I played all weekend though was KEMET. I've got to get a copy!!!!!
