UK GAMES EXPO 2016
I may have occasionally been accused of being a bit over-organised but... I just booked my hotel room for the 2016 UK Games Expo. I booked on points but noticed that they currently have a sale so twin/queen rooms are available for £69 per night. Now that's non-cancellable and excluding breakfast, so it could be better to wait and see what the expo rate is when announced. But still seems quite a good deal.
For those who haven't seen, the expo runs from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th June. Based on this year, there will also be gaming on the Thursday evening so I'm planning on heading down on the Thursday next year. Not sure whether I'll take the afternoon off or just go after work. Lifts available if anyone wants to go at the same time...
So, yes, now I just have a year to be excited about this!

Group rate hotel booking now available (though more expensive than the sale that was on when I posted the original thread)...

Yes - I've just seen this - Looks like the Hilton have hiked up their prices to take advantage of the growing popularity of the expo.... I was hoping to stay for 2 nights next year - but I won't be able to afford that now at the Hilton. I think Kes has been staying at a much cheaper hotel for the last couple of years - I'll have to go with that option next year - or just sleep in the car!!

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
Yeah, it's definitely gone up a lot since last year. The expo people have said they're also going to be publishing some rates for other nearby hotels soon, so hopefully there will be some better deals amongst those...
Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
I think I'm going to stay at the Premier Inn this time around - it's a mile away, but is significantly cheaper. It may encourage me to buy fewer games too

Happy for people to store games in my room if that's helpful...
I'll even let you have them back for a small fee ;-)

That could be a dangerous offer to make

Hoping to go for the weekend this time. Think I'll be off in the ghetto with Evan and Paul though.

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
The Premier Inn looks to be a good option. 10 minutes walk to the Hilton, less to the NEC halls (where much of the Expo will be hosted) and a twin room cost me £178 for three nights (Thu = £55, Fri = £58, Sat = £65).

I'm going for 3 days... do they post your badge out or do you have to collect at the door?
Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
You collect at the door - at least, that's what they did last year.Aneurin wrote:I'm going for 3 days... do they post your badge out or do you have to collect at the door?

Collect on the door. I'll be there for all three days too - going down on the Thursday afternoon if any other early birds want a lift.Aneurin wrote:I'm going for 3 days... do they post your badge out or do you have to collect at the door?

I might take you up on that. Or I could drive, plenty of room for games in the Monster truck!PaulG wrote:Collect on the door. Are we travelling together DaveB?

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
Evan and myself are heading down on Friday morning (early)... back sunday tea time... can probably take another 2... but this will be car dependent. If Nat wants the bus then I need space for games in the little car

I assumed so - we're going for the same period and sharing a room so would make sense really

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
Terrific! We can aim to go together with PaulG or, if many more people are heading down on Thursday and wants a lift we can re-evaluate.

In that case - "SHOTGUN!"

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
Also I picked up a small 2x4' folding plastic table - not really something to carry around the Expo but will potentially be handy for gaming back at the hotel
Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
I'll be looking for a lift on the Thursday please. I'm staying at the Hilton Thur-Sun.
I expect Gary will drive down on the Friday after work to join me and we'll go back on the Sunday together so he can give people lifts at either time.

Re: UK GAMES EXPO 2016
I'll be attending for the first time this coming year. I expect to spend most of my time playtesting the heck out of The Path to Panic, but also hope to chat to some people in the industry about how to proceed with trying to get TPtP off the ground, hand out business cards, make some contacts, that sort of thing. I will be joining in with the Playtest UK event (assuming they'll have me). I'll be there from Friday morning to Sunday night.
I was planning to get the train down on Friday morning, but if anyone has room for me (and TPtP's A1-sized board), I'd really appreciate a lift. Aneurin possibly?

Andy let me speak to Nat tonight about cars and which she wants etc... and get back to you. Big car will easily fit your board in
