Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
I have a free house on Sunday (up in Walkley), until about 6pm and fancy getting stuck in to something hefty, such as Eclipse. Paul G and Kes were interested and Paul C a maybe which would leave 2, maybe 3, spaces if anyone fancies joining us?

I'll be in Norway. Someone kill Kes for me in lieu.

Sam - of course.
Paul C / Dave B - shame.
Paul G - do you want to bring the other games you mentioned too? Just in case. Was Clash of Cultures one of them?
Aneurin - I was thinking late morning to early evening, probably can't do much later than 6pm.
What time do people want to get started, is 11am too early?

Ideal for me would be 2:30 or after, but it's only lunch I would be missing so I'm happy to start at 11 if that's preferred.

Yep, I'll bring a couple. Clash of Cultures is Steve's. I'm flexible on time - 11am is fine with me...karl_b wrote:Sam - of course.

Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
I watched the first half of a "how to play" video for Eclipse last night and it looks pretty great. Really nice components!
I'm pretty easy on what we play. Other 'big' games that I could bring if we want to play something meaty are:
- Amerigo
- Dungeon Lords
- Terra Mystica
- Through The Ages
They all only play up to 4 (apart from Terra Mystica), as does Clash of Cultures, so also depends how many of us there will be. I haven't played Dungeon Lords or Through The Ages so would need to do a bit of homework on those first if we wanted to play them.
But, as I say, I'd be very happy to play Eclipse!

Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
Eclipse is appropriate today but I'm interested in the others as I haven't played any of them before
Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
Yeah same. I want to play Eclipse tomorrow for sure but definitely want to play the others too.
See you guys at 11!

Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
We'll have time for a couple of big games, won't we? So I'll bring 'em along and see what we fancy after Eclipse.
Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
I'd really like to play Eclipse. Will be out running Sunday morning and probably worse for wear in the afternoon. Is it a long game? Could we play it one Tuesday?
Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
Looks like there's three of us then (me, Karl, Sam)?Kes wrote:So...I can't make now
Kat rather kindly bought me Merchant of Venus today so I might try and take a quick look at that as well...
Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
Yeah, just the three of us. Anyone else is welcome though!

Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
I'm sure I wrote a longer post than that. You can still borrow eclipse if you like
Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
Thanks to Paul for bringing a box of awesome games. Eclipse didn't make the show but Dungeon Lords was a fine stand-in. That is some masterful design. The theme and the mechanics were married beautifully, from the manual to the card names, as were the artwork and the board layout. There was just the right amount of euro-y timing concerns to keep your brain burning coal, and then your dungeon building efforts culminate in the decidedly uneuro-y spectacle of bands of heroes rampaging into your home and being fought back by trolls, vampires, and swinging pendulum blades. We need to play the petz expansion ASAP.
If you could somehow combine Dungeon Lords and Castles of Mad King Ludwig....
Sentinel Tactics? I love the idea of turning the rules book into a comic book, but splitting the rules between five comics so you it takes as long to piece together how to play the game as it does to actually play it... not cool — but can almost forgive it when you see those superhero miniatures! Those things look great. Then you get them onto the board. That's when things really fall apart. I don't know if I can express how flat this game fell with me. If I slam the (terrible) artwork you might assume I didn't give this game a chance, so let me hold off — the truth is this game managed to be mechanically simplistic, messy, unbalanced, loose and fiddly all at once. Damn, though, those miniatures deserve to be in a better game.
It's funny how playing bad games sometimes leaves me more hungry to play more than playing a satiating good game. I'm really into superheroes and tactical combat games, so finishing Sentinels left wanting to try, say, Mage Knight, Space Hulk, Summoner Wars, Dice Masters, Legendary...
I think I can retain the Eclipse rules I learnt yesterday in memory for a little while so if anyone is up for it let me know, it looks amazing.

Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
Cheers Sam and Paul, it was a fun afternoon. Dungeon Lords was terrific, I want to play again soon.
I'm up for Eclipse soon too, in fact I'm free Friday night if anyone else is? Not sure whether I'll have the car though so I'll check with the gaffer.

Re: Sunday 22nd - Eclipse?
That's three votes for more Dungeon Lords then :-)
Sentinel Tactics - I still think there's a decent game in there struggling to get out but the rules are badly written. I might download the revised "fan-made" rulebook and see if that helps. But I agree that it felt flat.
And I'm not free on Friday, unfortunately, but also up for trying Eclipse some time.
