Just wanted to say hello!

Good morning all,

Having just joined the board I wanted to say hello to all your good selves and introduce myself.

I have lived in Sheffield for 8 years now and finally decided it is time to try and find some people to get my game fix with. I am currently moving house, which means getting rid of all my old tabletop models and in doing so feeling the familiar pang of knowing that getting rid of these takes me one step further away from the games I want to play!

I am up for almost any game and have a few of my own I am happy to bring and share. I work away during most weeks but I look forward to meeting up and sharing war stories as soon as possible.

Hiya Snayff, welcome to the forum!

I only joined a little while ago, but it's a very welcoming group with an insane amount of games that you could try and play.

See if you can come along to a Sunday gaming at the Red Deer pub in town - it's on the first Sunday of every month (I think that's right?) so the next one won't be long. If you do get an occasional Tuesday evening in Sheff then of course it'd be great to see you down on the usual club night.

I work away a fair bit as well so I indulge myself while I can and then sort of cold turkey while working away.

Matt's right, we have Sunday Sessions at The Red Deer on the first Sunday of the month. There was one the Sunday just gone, however, so the next one isn't until August 2nd.

Hopefully we'll see you at a session soon.

I will keep an eye on any gaps in my work diary for a Tuesday night but Sunday the 2nd August sounds great. What usually goes on for those days? Can I bring anything? What sort of games are likely?

I am sure I can find the Red Deer, but I have never heard of it!

The Red Deer is in central Sheffield. Fairly easy to find. 

We play various games, some prearranged on the forum,  but generally people just turn up with a bag of games and see what people want to play.

Bring along anything you want to play. People just pick up and play whatever they fancy. We start at 12.00 and usually carry on until about 10.00pm, but you can turn up when you want - people come and go all day.

Do you guys ever play any tabletop stuff? Or TCGs?

1200-2200 sounds like plenty of time to get some games in. I am pumped up to play some now!

X-wing. We play x-wing! A few clubs members play tabletop stuff separately but not usually at the club.

What tabletop games are you looking to play?

If you want to play more war based table top miniatures games a few of our members are also members of South Yorkshire Dice Devils https://www.facebook.com/SYDiceDevils or the Sheffield/Rotherham wargames Club http://www.sr-wargamers.co.uk/.

AS Kes pointed out the closest we get here is X-wing/Armada/Imperial Assault type games. Maybe Blood Bowl a few years back...

In terms of TCGs that is usually the domain of Patriot Games http://www.patriotgames.ltd.uk/store/ They often have organised MTG events. That doesn't mean you couldn't start playing here... quite often we see LCGs and things like Marvel dice masters on the tables.

Just post up what you are interested in and I'm sure someone will play .

Well, I used to play Warhammer Fantasy quite a bit but the setup is far too arduous if you (me) don't know the game like the back of your hand. Heard good things about Warmachine/Hordes but honestly I just love the strategy and planning. I also have more than my share of MTG cards, but without playing from the same set (draft and the like) seems far too pay to win.

I am right there with you, Aneurin. I always try and watch Wil for new ideas on games to play. I can't say I know much about Imperial Armada and the like but good ol' Wil played X-Wing so I have seen that one at least!

Tbh, I look forward to just learning some new games and meeting some new faces.
