paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Perhaps this is slightly ridiculous but...
A few people have noted (when out at The Cast Are Dice weekend or similar) that "we could just do this but at someone's house - we've got loads of games we haven't played". So I'm doing it! It's vaguely near my birthday, I've got permission and it's all systems go for paulygcon (blame Lizzy for the name).
On the evening of Friday 13th November and all day on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th come over and play some games. We've got loads we haven't played and you probably have too! We'll do some food and stuff! Come for some of it or all of it! Let me know if you can make it! Don't make me stubbornly play solitaire Firefly on my own all weekend!

Great idea, and very generous of you to host Paul. I'd love to come. Did you have a particular format in mind? Do we prearrange games to play, or just bring our faves and play whatever takes our fancy? I'd particularly like to play more Eclipse, so if anyone is game for that, I definitely am!

Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Jamie, when we went to Cast are Dice (at least the first time) we played lots of games we hadn't played before. One if the great things with conventions is the library of games you haven't played. As it turns out, we already have a library of unplanyed games so I think the idea was to try and go through as many of them as possible.
I'm obviously not saying you can't play eclipse if people want to play but I'm not certain that was the idea behind it.
I'm currently free so will make if possible. Cheers Paul!

I'll be there with bells on!
(I'll take the bells off when we start playing games though, I imagine they'd get really annoying).

In general, just come along and play whatever you fancy. However, for something big like Eclipse it would make sense to get some interest in advance and probably set a time so you know you've got some willing participants coordinatedJamie wrote:Great idea, and very generous of you to host Paul. We should have enough space to play up to 3 games at the same time, depending on how many people are there at a given time...
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Personally I'll mostly be looking to try out new stuff, as you say, but I'm happy for people to play whatever they want to.Kes wrote:Jamie, when we went to Cast are Dice (at least the first time) we played lots of games we hadn't played before. Will there be a library at PaulyGCon? I'll put the dates in my diary! Can probably make the evening shifts...
Talking of evening shifts what if PaulyGCon USP was a 24 hour gamer-thon?

Not 'quite' as well-stocked as at TCAD, but there are a couple of wardrobes full of games...Aneurin wrote:Will there be a library at PaulyGCon? I'll put the dates in my diary! Can probably make the evening shifts...
Not sure that would gain approval from 'the planning committee'Aneurin wrote:Talking of evening shifts what of PaulyGCon USP was a 24 hour gamer-thon?
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
As I checked the diary I realised that Friday 13th is Kreb's Fest at the University. I running a brain controlled drag race at that event so I would have to do Sat/Sun!
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Oh I think I'm doing a brain controlled drag race as well, forgot about that.

Oooh, that reminds me; there was a programme on TV last night, about the possible harmful effects of violent video games, do they make people more violent etc? They had people in MRI scanners playing games, and monitoring brain activity as they play. Your brain controlled drag race, sounds like the same kind of thing, but in reverse (brain activity used as input for the game)?
Anyhow, re: Eclipse, totally love it; but more than happy to come along and try out a whole bunch of new stuff. Sadly, the only unplayed game I have is Masquerade (which, I'm not sure that even counts, as I have played it before, once; just not played my copy of it).

Yes I blame Mario for my wanting need to jump on peoples heads all the time. Damn you and the Mushroom kingdom!
Yes they would have been using functional MRI. That's my research area... and its bollocks... you can vary the MRI signal by holding your breath or drinking too much caffeine... which when you are mowing down pedestrians in GTA for 6 hours straight I would image happens a lot.
And yes - you will be using your brain power to accelerate the car... I'm modding a helicopter - which is impossible to control with your mind!
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Sounds good! I doubt I'll get a pass for all of it but I should be along for at least one full day!
You mentioned Firefly at the start, I'll probably have Kalidasa by then if you a) want a game and b) have a handy door-sized surface to play off

Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Yep I'm sure we can schedule that in and hopefully my main table should be large enough (surely no game can be larger than 8-player Twilight Imperium?)DaveB wrote:Sounds good! I doubt I'll get a pass for all of it but I should be along for at least one full day!

One big scheduled game (Eclipse / Firefly) on each of the weekend days could be cool actually. Will still be at least one other table for people who want to play something else though

If you have room but not table space, I have a 6'x3' folding picnic table that I can send along to add to the playing surface...

Oh, that could be useful. This is great Paul! - I'm definitely around on the Friday evening - but I don't think I'll be able to do the Sat...and I'm working on the Sunday.... So I'll be there on Friday 13th!
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Would have been perfect for an evening of Mansions of Madness . Alas work gets in the way...
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Terrific idea! I'll definitely be along for some of it (Friday night for sure) and I'll try for a Saturday pass too.

I'm excited that so many people can make it! Sounds like this thing is a go-er!
Re: paulygcon: 13th - 15th November
Paul, this is patently ridiculous. I'll be there.
