That was a good film with some seriously shonky science. Although ironically one of (what I thought to be) the worst examples was actually based in fact Smile

Kes, and others with Cineworld Unlimited cards: would you recommend it? So many good films coming out this year I think I'll get one.

You need to have people to go with. I only really get to go wednesdays but if you get one, we can go all the time!

Short version - if you're going to go at least twice a month over the year you'll come out ahead Smile

Longer version - some of the perks are nice too - like the occasional special shows they put on. The food discount is useful at times too.

Kes, we'll be the Sheffield Movie Goers Club. Membership is skyrocketing: numbers have doubled in the past day! Start work on the t-shirt!

Orange Wednesday is ending late next month. They say they'll replace it with another entertainment related deal, perhaps not cinema, but I'll make the most of Wednesdays before it ends.

I figure if there are twenty films I would want to see this year without an unlimited card, getting the card would be worth it.

Birdman
The Theory Of Everything
Ex Machina
Big Hero 6
Jupiter Ascending
Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Mad Max: Fury Road
Tomorrowland
Jurassic World
Terminator Genisys
Untitled Cameron Crowe Project
Ant-Man
Inside Out
Fantastic Four
Crimson Peak
Spectre
The Good Dinosaur
The Martian
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Mission: Impossible 5

And that's twenty. Not to mention stuff I'm not sure about eg.

Frankenstein
Trainwreck
Pixels
Monsters: Dark Continent
The Jungle Book
Cinderella
Fast & Furious 7
Selma

Plus wanting to watch some films twice, which I don't do often enough, and films not on my radar yet that turn out to be good, or just trying out random films. So, yeah, seems like a good year for it.

Sounds like you're well set then, Sam Smile

Also - if you get your card quickly, there is a cardholders-only preview of The Kingsman on Jan 26th... I've not seen any formal reviews yet but it's got a pretty good buzz going so far...

That is true... Midnight showing on day of release anyone? I saw episodes 2 and 3 at midnight of release... We can take our lightsabers... It's only right I take the opportunity to check whether the film would be appropriate for Noah at 9am on the 18th right?

Public Service Announcement: Jupiter Ascending is an embarrassing disgrace to cinema. It is like watching the remains of a car crash hitting a train wreck. It is like watching a well-loved celebrity awkwardly fart for three hours on camera. Every screen that has had Juptier Ascending projected onto it should be sterilized or replaced. I did not enjoy it. Thank you.

Admittedly I don't watch a lot at the cinema nowadays but Jupiter Ascending was the most obvious Sci-Fi dud I've ever seen a trailer for! Perk of the Unlimited card I guess, you haven't paid any extra to see it.

I liked Ex Machina, mainly for Eva as a character who was both well acted and well visually designed, and it had a few cool ideas, but it wasn't the most cinematic or exiting film. You won't lose anything by watching it on TV... and come to think of it the story would have worked just as well as a 40 minute TV show. Plus, very little of what the characters did in the last 15 minutes was convincing, and that totally took me out of the film.

My favourite films that came out this year in the UK have been Whiplash, The Theory of Everything, and Selma. Next to watch will probably be Inherent Vice. Not sure what to think of it: trailer was cool and reviews good, but word is a lot of people have been walking out during it.

I disagree I thought the musical score really added to the power of this film... And that would be lost on the small screen. In the cinema we watched it - it was deadly silent at the end as everyone was in their own little world taking it all in - i thought it was very immersive. Acting by all characters was excellent - the young programmer will be in Star Wars 7. Yes there is no 'new' story here but lots of deep Psychology about love and friendship - and I think if you appreciate this is a film4 production and you remember 'sunshine' that mix of Sci fi thriller and mild horror - the ending makes sense.

Or maybe it was just a change from children's animation why I enjoyed it...

how would a car crash hit a train wreck? Was the car crash being carried on the back of a recovery truck? Was the train already wrecked before the car crash hit it? I'm confused.

Maybe the car crash was an ongoing event? for example, two cars, having observered a train crash right in front of them crash into each other in their effort to avoid said train crash, but their momentum carries the car-crash-in-process into the train crash.

Or Sam demonstrated appalling use of hyperbole, one or the other Wink

As an aside - "Into the Woods" is an early contender for the worst film I'll be subjected to this year, already relegating the solid effort put fourth by "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"

Yeah, I saw that trailer and though it looks like a film I'd either love or find really annoying, with the probabilities leaning towards annoyance.

I don't go to the cinema nearly as much as I'd like. I've only seen two films so far this year, but they've both been excellent; Oscar-bait 'Birdman' and New Zealand vampire mockumentary 'What We Do In The Shadows' (with Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords). That was a one-off showing at the lovely new Curzon cinema on George Street.
