Tuesday 17th January
Is it too early to talk about next week? No? Good!
I'm bringing Mechs vs Minions. DaveB is signed up already, since they were signed up to the aborted session on the 3rd it's only fair that I give first refusal to Samuel and Rich_Swan for the remaining seats.

Not to jump the gun, but if either of them back out, can I nab their spot?

I've got Mechs vs Minions as well so if you can't get into Paul's game jump into mine. Haven't played it yet so all the envelopes are still sealed!

Back after a lengthy hiatus, I would like to play M vs M if possible, please, Rik. Thanks.

Re: Tuesday 17th January
MvsM is really good. I'd suggest playing it with the same group all through the campaign. You definitely learn a lot as you go on.
We should switch out imperial assault for mechs instead and then we could have three copies being played at once

Yeah I will endeavour to be there for every game in a single campaign if I'm invited to join one of the groups. If the groups are already booked up, it's no problem. There are plenty of other games I'm interested in of course.

Re: Tuesday 17th January
I don't seem to be playing anything
I'll bring along Memoir. Anyone want to play that? What else are people thinking of bringing? Out of the club library I've been told I should give Formula D a second chance (I hated it the first time), Agricola's a good 'un, and Airlines Europe looks fun.

There's lots of people bringing lots of xmas games and I don't want to bring that massive box if we can't get anyone else to play it! So we will give it a miss if that's OK, there will be plenty of other games to get in on.

Re: Tuesday 17th January
Three cool games tonight. Exciting card-based ninja co-op game to start called Say Bye to the Villains. I though we were pretty close to winning but apparently none of the people at the table that had played before had yet won. I like a co-op that will take a battering before you crack it.
Terra Mystica was pretty headache inducing. My race, the Engineers, had cheap buildings but hardly any resources to start with. I guess I started badly because felt I was trying to claw my way back into the game for two thirds of it. Getting more resources was made awkward by some of the Engineer houses not providing workers — you lift up that house from your player board to build it and, surprise motherfucker, it's a blank space underneath. I think I got a basic plan together towards the end but was still making little mistakes. I probably should start each game by looking at the round scoring tiles and scoring icons on the bonus cards for that game — like Matt mentioned afterwards, paying attention to the points turned out to be important . Need to play this again to smooth out my game.
Tzaar has very nice pieces.
How did everyone else find their Terra Mystica races? What did the next table over think of Cavern Tavern?

Re: Tuesday 17th January
I really enjoyed "Mechs Vs Minions" - its got a great "out of the box" experience with lots of cool looking *stuff*. We found a couple of minor niggles in the rules that required a little interpretation but it was otherwise pretty clearly laid out. I like the way rules were introduces as the game went on, at the appropriate point.
We played three games, the tutorial and then a first and second attempt at mission one. First one we screwed up quite badly but we were well on top of things second time round. I really enjoyed it and look forward to playing it again soon
We also played "Junk Art" which is by the same guys that did "Flick 'em Up" - a game I enjoy but (like basically every flicking game) totally suck at In this you are dealt a number of cards which correspond to wooden bricks - depending on an objective card you will need to build a structure of some sorts with the bricks in the cards. Depending on the objective you score followers based on attributes of your structure. Play three objectives and highest score wins. Again, a very good game but definitely one for the delicate of hand! And a nice solid table!

Re: Tuesday 17th January
So Cavern Tavern was good but not without issues. Was a fairly close scoring game, less then 10 points between the top 3 places would definitely play again.
There was a few questions about certain rules we had that could have been explained better, or just had no explanation at all.
The theme was great, artwork was nice, had limited asymmetrical player powers, hidden objectives and plenty of spaces on the board so you wasn't constantly competing for ingredients. Taking too long to complete a patrons order caused you to gain less points, and you ultimately get chewed out by your angry boss. Which was great, aside from how variable they was. Minor issue though.I hated being limited to what ingredients you could get purely down to your dice rolls, but at least you had the other spaces on the board to try and compete for (tough luck if your last to act!).
Also played Junk Art, had a lot of fun. Devilishly giving crappy pieces to your next player only to watch them fail was great. Does need to be played on a solid surface though, my 'art' almost fell over multiple times just from other people walking around the room.. O.o
