Board games on Kickstarter
I was wondering if anyone else regularly backs games on Kickstarter. I guess I'm interested in tips on things that look good (or what I've missed!). Also, everything that I've backed so far has turned out to be pretty good. I'm wondering if this is generally the case or if I've just been lucky...
In the past I have backed:
- Velociraptor! Cannibalism! - fun game - need to play it some more!
- Catan Gaming Board - was really handy this weekend when we had to shift the board to make way for people to eat lunch
- Machine of Death - not played yet but the box looks amazing!
I'm currently backing:
- Sentinel Tactics - played an in-development version of this on JoCo Cruise Crazy and it's a brilliantly streamlined hex-based team tactics game with superheroes
- Pirate Den - I love the look of the bluffing gameplay of this
- Robots on the Line - a complete punt, but I'm a sucker for robots

Re: Board games on Kickstarter
I had a look at Sentinel Tactics, but the shipping cost to Europe was a killer.
I've backed the Coup expansion... Plus a few others:
Brew Crafters
Hoyuk
Oddball Aeronauts

Ooh, Hoyuk looks interesting! And I'd just spotted the Coup expansion last night so backed that as well... I have a terrible problem.
I agree about the Sentinels shipping cost and it gave me significant pause. Still, paying for that is a problem for future-paulyg. I'll certainly bring it down when it arrives so you can check it out.

Re: Board games on Kickstarter
So far I have backed:
Zombicide Season 2
Tiny Epic Kingdoms
Ultimate Werewolf
Heroes Wanted
This Town Ain't Big Enough
Zombicide season 3 will be just around the corner...
With extortionate postage I generally only back projects where I get something extra for my buck to kind of offset it... Exclusives are helpful there... My feeling is a lot of these games would be cheaper at retail than the designer suggests so I need something...
I had an early bird on Zombie 15' but backed out when it became clear that all the goals were hitting the retail package anyway...

Re: Board games on Kickstarter
I'm down for Coup: Reformation (as a big fan of the base game that was a total no-brainer)
Zombicide S3 would be interesting given I don't own any of the previous ones...

After Tabletop day I will be running a Zombicide event at the club for Patriot games... Guillotine Games (the producers) have designed some 'Gaming Night Kits' that offer a small campaign and prizes (exclusive models) at the end... might be a way to get you into it and Patriot might offer a good discount on the original version...
Re: Board games on Kickstarter
I've played the first one a few times, really enjoyed it. Not played part 2 yet tho
Re: Board games on Kickstarter
Kes will be playing season 2 on Saturday... Its good... I think it dilutes the game a little... there are some cracking ideas but equally some very rushed ones that imo spoil the effect...
Dogs are great... get those

Re: Board games on Kickstarter
So far I've backed:
BOSSMONSTER - A good fun game - which I am very pleased with.
GUILDS OF CADWALLION - which is an ok little game - but on reflection, I didn't feel it was really worth the money.
SNOWDONIA - which was really just a pre-order of the 2nd printing, so I knew what I was going to get anyway - and it's great!
LORDS OF WAR (undead vs Templars) which I'm currently waiting for.... (really good 2 player tactical card game...I've got the first set Orcs vs Dwarves - so I know what I'm getting)
Mostly  my experience of Kickstarter has been good.... but I'm holding back now to save up for some already established games to add to my collection.
Tiny Epic Kingdoms looks really interesting though - I wish I'd got in on that one!!! - I'm definitely up for giving that a go when you get your copy Aneurin!

Re: Board games on Kickstarter
The only one I've backed so far is Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia. Very happy with that and the upgraded components I got from the kickstarter are just spectacular.
I try and stay away from kickstarter though. I've seen a few projects where the kickstarter edition had mistakes and the second edition is actually much better as they've had time to fix things, re-write rule books etc.
Is anyone backing Tuscany?

Viticulture is supposed to be a great game and it's not had a retail release, this is the only way to get it.

I did have a look at Viticulture, it looked good, but quite similar to other games I have (or am backing)... and since I'm not spied to be buying any new games at the moment I decided against.

Re: Board games on Kickstarter
I was slightly tempted by Viticulture/Tuscany but not sure... I haven't managed to read what makes it different from other worker placement games. Has anyone played it?

Would it help if I mentioned that it was really great, especially the night we spent a few hours playing unreleased games with Andrew Looney? Â Â
It was actually spending some time in the board games room there and playing with very friendly strangers that got me to pluck up the courage to come along to SBGC!
I can really, really recommend it as an amazing holiday but, unfortunately, it's also incredibly expensive (particularly given the extra cost of flights from the UK). We're not sure yet if we'll be able to make the next one, but I have my fingers tightly crossed.
Here's the stack of games not currently being played in the board games room on the ship (not pictured: lots of tables full of board games!)

At some point, that got rearranged into a "Throne of Games" for Wil Wheaton to sit on (I didn't get a photo of that though).
Re: Board games on Kickstarter
I know it's pricey, the flights are a killer. I looked into going this year as a sort of 10th wedding anniversary present to ourselves, but it was still way out of our price range! Maybe if there's a mediterranean JoCo Cruise Crazy one day I'll get to go...

Or we could arrange our own, along the river Don perhaps?CocoaCocoabo wrote:I know it's pricey, the flights are a killer. Yeah, I wanted to go to JCCC1... it took until JCCC4 for us to afford it! Interestingly, the number of people has been growing each year and they mentioned that after JCCC5 next year they might have to start doing two per year to accommodate everybody. I guess if they do that then that increases the chance that one of them might be a bit closer to home.
Re: Board games on Kickstarter
I've just backed the latest FlashPoint expansion on KS. Damn you, Bunglebogs!!

Oooh, just got the email that Coup Reformation is shipping soon. Looking forward to this even more after playing some Coup (hadn't played it for ages) last night!
