I'm considering getting this in the near to mid future. Is anyone else going to as well? Capital ship warfare appeals to me a lot more than the dogfighting style of play in X-Wing but I don't want to grab it only to have no one else to play against on a regular basis.

Not seen much in the way of tournaments nearby either, although to be fair I've not checked many places.

I'm not going down that road... no sir. I learned my lesson with X-wing.

Try Wargames Emporium in Orchard Square on a Monday evening. The last few times I've been along, there have been a few people playing Armada alongside the X-Wingers.

I'd love to have a go at Armada, but I'm too invested in x-wing at the moment to have the time or money for it. Shame, as there are really cool sounding cross-over tournaments using Armada, X-Wing and Imperial Assault.

There are tournaments for Armada, definitely in Huddersfield and Doncaster. I've not noticed any in Sheffield yet, but I'm sure there will be once more people are playing it!

Tom's right though, they're a lovely bunch at Wargames, I'm sure they'd be happy to teach you the game so you can have a go before you buy. I'm busy Mondays or I'd do that myself Sad

If you do end up getting it, I'll give you a game sometime...

Cool I'll check them out. I didn't even know they existed. Looking at their website, they don't sell Armada. Just seems to be X-Wing but I'll probably still have a look next time I'm in town.

I noticed FFG will be at the board game expo this year, do they normally take merchandise to sell at these things? If so are they likely to be cheaper than in the shops. The main barrier for me just buying this game right now is the price. Soooo expensive.

There'll be loads of traders at UK Games Expo selling Star Wars stuff. The prices don't tend to be much different from in shops, but if you're buying a lot you can haggle with them.

If you want to just pick up a copy in Sheffield I'd try The Outpost.

It is horrifically expensive, especially if you consider the expansion packs!

There is definitely haggling to be done at the UKGE if you buy a decent amount of stuff (I think we got about 15-20% off when buying 3 games from someone last year).

There's also the possibility that someone might put up a big batch of Armada stuff for sale at the bring 'n' buy (that's how Kes got his start in X-Wing for a fraction of the RRP).

I'd be interested in a game some time (same with X-Wing) but I know that I wouldn't play regularly enough to invest in the stuff myself.

Christ I hadn't heard of the Outpost either. Here's me thinking I was limited to Patriot Games. Anyway thanks for the help. I find out if I managed to get into my professional body at work tomorrow, if I do I'll get a little bonus so think I'll treat myself to the starter pack. Fingers crossed.

Did you have to mention that? Reminding me of his insufferably smug face makes me wanna punch something. Ideally his insufferably smug face.

Yeah, we should have a game of X-Wing sometime. Kes, maybe we could do another doubles game like we did for Tom and Ellis?

And good luck Ste!

PaulG - I'm planning on selling my X-wing stuff at the expo. You could save me the bother of ferrying it to Birmingham...

Yours for just £12.

Or you can have the lot for £100, including a stylish carrying case.

Ok, that's not really big enough for me now!

I'd give you £18 for the falcon. I don't have one myself and I could do with some of the upgrades. But you're better off selling it all at the expo really, you'd get more.

The whole lot's worth £200 and X-Wing hardly loses any value. Someone would be getting a bargain at £150 let alone £100!
