Dunno if Kirsten will still be here. Hopefully. Obviously I'll be there
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
I will be there, the attendance of Jen depends on finding somewhere to put the kids. we both eat meat.

Yes.... but if you closed the voting when it said the 15th - how did the 8th get more votes?

The dates are equal again! I'm ok with either, but we should stick to one.

I'm gonna have to demote myself to a maybe. Turns out the work Xmas party is on the same day (Who the hell has a work do on a Tuesday?) anyway I'll probably be going to that...assuming I'm still working there by then...

Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
All, Aneurin has used £50 of the club kitty as a deposit to book the University Arms for Tuesday 15th December. I'll leave it to him to confirm cost, payment arrangements, etc and get straight to the important bit...
...what game shall we run as a tournament on the night? The past few years we've had a whole evening PitchCar tournament with various knockout rounds leading to a final and eventual winner, with prizes for the top three (your club membership fee in action!). I think it's always worked really well, it's simple, creates a fairly equal playing field, lends itself brilliantly to a tournament and is a really good spectator game. I'd happily keep it an annual tradition but what do other people think? King of Tokyo was suggested last year as an alternative, I think that would be great but is perhaps less fun to watch once knocked out.

Personally I wouldn't be all that keen on King of Tokyo - as you rightly say its not nearly so interesting from a spectator point of view...
I was lobbying for La Boca last year which I still think would work well but I don't remember it being a massively popular suggestion, so on balance I'd probably vote for PitchCar
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
I think Pitch Car works really well. If not that, then I think another shortish dexterity game could also be good - simple, level playing field and fun are all important. I haven't got any to offer at the moment, but I should have Click Clack Lumberjack arriving in the next few weeks which looks like it could potentially fall into the same category (but I don't know if we have any other copies?)karl_b wrote:...what game shall we run as a tournament on the night? And, not as a tournament game, but as an additional fun 'Christmas activity' it might be nice to see if we could have a big game of Two Rooms & A Boom? I think someone has the print n play?
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
Oooh, La Boca is a good shout (even though I'm terrible at it). Definitely simple and has some of the same spectator draw (not to mention tongue-biting as you want to shout 'OBVIOUSLY YOU NEED TO MOVE THE RED BIT TO THE RIGHT AND HIDE IT UNDER THE YELLOW'). I think we have a few copies between us too. Only problem I can see is that you'd end up with a winning 'team' of 2. Game of Twilight Struggle to separate winner & runner-up? ;-)DaveB wrote:I was lobbying for La Boca last year which I still think would work well but I don't remember it being a massively popular suggestion, so on balance I'd probably vote for PitchCar
Re: Christmas Party 2015 - old discussions
I still think Pitchcar makes the most sense for the christmas party.
A King of Tokyo tournament would be great fun though, or indeed La Boca. I think it'd be cool to do tournaments every so often, but it doesn't need to be christmas to do that.
