UK Games Expo 2014
Just thinking about the 2014 UK GAMES EXPO.....
http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/
I am planning to go down just on the Saturday this year (31st May). My vague plan is to leave Sheffield 7.30am ish... and stay at the expo till late for open gaming etc.... heading back to Sheffield late evening... I will have room in the car for 3 others - let me know If you want a lift!

I'm definitely planning on going. Not thought about how long to stay/how to get there yet though.

Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Funnily enough I was having a chat with Bunglebogs yesterday about looking at heading down to this!
Re: UK Games Expo 2014
I think it would be nice thing if any of the Sheffield Folks going down could co-ordinate a bit and meet up for some game playing at some point during the day!? (That was a long sentence.)
Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Evan - I'm in the same position as last year in that I'd really like to go but it will depend on money nearer the time. If I'm going I'd like to take a bit to buy some new games!

Looks like we should hire a minibus! Has anyone got Travel Carcassonne?

Also found myself looking at maps yesterday, thinking "I wonder if I could easily drive to Essen"... annoyingly it seems the answer is yes. I better start saving up!

Re: UK Games Expo 2014
I'll need to clear it with SWMBO but keen on attending. My folks live about 10mins away...
Re: UK Games Expo 2014
I'm definitely up for that and NOT going by train, last year I had to wait some ridiculous time at night at the horrible station! Am also going to Essen this year, I was just looking at trains when i read this post

Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Just out of interest, (and not because I have any intention of going to Essen this year, no Siree! But...) how easy is it to get to Essen via train?

Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Gary and I are also planning on going to Essen this year. I was assuming by plane, but if the train's easier/cheaper then that'd be good to know!
Or does anyone fancy hiring a mini-bus ? ROAD TRIP!

That sounds like a great idea!
I just need to come up with a compelling argument to convince my wife!

Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Essen definately has a station. I know this as a fact after playing Ticket to Ride Europe.

Karl.... There is a lot of stuff to buy there (but not much is cheaper there than if you bought it over the internet) - but there is an absolute tonne of stuff to do/see without spending money... loads of new games to play demos of, games to playtest, and they have a library of games you can book out to play too...
Re: UK Games Expo 2014
I think I would love to do this too. Would be awesome to meet up. Ill be driving for sure and may or may not be able to offer seats . I just need to check if friends want to come then I will open 3 seats ( although two will need to be small, if you saw my car you will understand)

I'm almost certain I'll be going on the Saturday.

Seminar schedule is up and it looks awesome!

Matt Leacock and Chris Barrie! I'm now thinking there won't be time to do everything on the Sat so leaning towards staying till Sun.

Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Evan, did you say you regretted taking part in the tournament last time? I was considering the Catan tournament but it takes up the whole Saturday

I didn't regret it - it was good fun, but it did take up most of the day and didn't leave much time for other stuff. I was there for 2 days last year though, and I went by myself, so it gave me something definate to do on one of the days when I was there. This year I'm just going for one day, so I'm not going to enter any tournaments - There's loads of other stuff to do...
It's up to you though Kes - the prestige of winning the Uk Catan championships is within your grasp!!
Re: UK Games Expo 2014
Definitely up for going down now though. The whole thing is only £20 which is pretty reasonable but the rooms cost a bit more. We should probably sort out a plan for everyone that wants to go at some point
Re: UK Games Expo 2014
I've reserved a room at the Ramada Encore. It's only £42 for a double room and 10mins walk from the expo so seems pretty reasonable.
We'll have room in the car for another 2 (or 3 at a push) if anyone wants a lift down. I guess we'll be going early Sat and coming back when it's over on Sun.
