Re: Tuesday 17th May
My update is that tomorrow I will be bringing games, buying games and playing games. Beyond that I'm not sure. I think I've now found someone to bring Steampunk Rally. Also Stellar Conflict, which I reviewed on here as a great quick little filler. And do want to play Web of Spies. And Agricola. And Race for the Galaxy. And perhaps some others...

I'd be interested in Game of Thrones if you're still looking for players

Woot! It's looking hopeful. I can see us getting 6 for Game of Thrones. So far, we have...
1. Karl
2. Jamie
3. Richard
4. Matt
5. Jen
6. Adam
Now full!
Should we have any reserves?

Hi Jen,
I thought Sam was playing Memoir 44 with Evan? I think he was just registering his general interest in a 6 player game of GoT, to be played at some other time, possibly a non-Tuesday session.
If I'm mistaken though, let me know Sam, and I'll add you...

Sorry, looks like you're right. My fault for skim-reading.

Hi All, I'll be dropping off the club-owned game Ankhmorpork tonight, as requested by psychomansam.
But alas I can't stay. Will it be OK for someone else to look after and take home?

If the last place on GoT is available can I take it?

Awesome, looks like you're our 6th Adam!
In Karl's absence (he's probably working or something), I'll update the list!
Re: Tuesday 17th May
Rad games tonight. Me and Evan blitzed through a trilogy of exciting Memoir '44 scenarios but only used half the unit and terrain types. I'm looking forward to trying out more complex maps. I think I could teach the rules of this one to anyone in the family, but they're effective at making an enjoyable little war. Plus, putting the maps together and dropping your units over them is as fun as any toy
Memoir 44 also has a great insert that made me genuinely happy as soon as I opened the box. I didn't realize this was Days of Wonder trait until I saw inside the box of Quadropolis. Perfection.
Ashes was great, too. Seems way less fiddly to explain than Netrunner, though maybe due to Lizzy's tutoring. Love the art/theme, love the combinations of powers, love the close game we had. Netrunner is a lot more ambitious and original, both in terms of mechanics and theme, but if you can't get behind summoning monsters, powering them up and hitting other monsters who are you really?
Did you finish GoT? Shame no Avalon tonight, I would have been up for it.

Yes, we finished after 9 rounds (of the normal 10, it was getting late), in the end, Adam won. Well done Adam!
I mostly enjoyed the game. It was a little frustrating in that it's so fiddly, with so many things to consider; you end up doing things in a sub-optimal way with mistakes-a-plenty. It also reminded me a bit of Diplomacy, there's a lot of scope for negotiation and betrayal...
I'm looking forward to playing it again though. Next time, I'll be sure to arm myself with some player aids from BGG, and make sure I'm more familiar with the rules. My preference would be to play on a non-Tuesday session; it's a long game, and while you could probably fit it in on a Tuesday, I think you'd be rushing it a bit, and there wouldn't be time for Avalon after.

Yeah, me too; Dave was talking about organising another Thursday evening session.
Re: Tuesday 17th May
I really enjoyed GoT, thanks to those that played for their patience with me for not remembering the rules! We were very close to finishing and I think that now I know the rules a little better (that was the first time I've had to teach it) it shouldn't take so long. I appreciate it's a long game but I think 4 hours should be enough, add another half hour for going over the rules with new players.
Let's play again soon.

Re: Tuesday 17th May
GoT was really good last night and I'd love to play again sometime. Although I'd guess my tactic of mooching round in the north hoping no one notices me won't be as effective again. I agree that its easy to make mistakes with so much going on but I guess thats thematic as everyone in the books seem to make monumental errors on a regular basis. Also agree it could be played to a finish in 4 hours more experienced players.
